Waste Disposal

Wiltshire Council is taking a proactive approach to fly-tipping, where those caught are being issued with fixed penalty notices, so far these have reached up to £1000.

If you are having work done to your house or garden and have waste that needs to be disposed of it must be done correctly, if not you may face a fine. This blog is here to help you understand when you may receive a fine and the correct measures you should be taking to prevent receiving one.

When can you receive a fine?

You can receive a fine if:

  1. You physically fly-tip
  2. You failed to obtain comprehensive information about a company's waste disposal procedures and your waste has been fly-tipped by the company.

When you are having waste removed, e.g. an old fence line or garden shed, you must obtain relevant information that can trace those who are removing your waste. So that, if your waste is found to be fly-tipped you have reduced your liability. This information can include:

  1. Receipts
  2. Waste Carriers License Number
  3. Vehicle and driver descriptions.

Of these, the waste carrier license is of utmost importance as this ensures that your waste is being removed and treated correctly. Here at Bulldog Sheds and Fencing, we always adhere to the correct waste disposal procedures and are Certified with the Registration under the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011.

What is a Waste Carriers License?

A waste carrier license allows a company to transfer and carry waste, without a license companies are liable to either a fixed penalty notice or a fine.

When working with a company to transfer waste, it is important for customers to obtain their waste carrier license number as without it you are liable for any fly-tipping offences regarding your waste.

Not only does a waste carrier license prevent customers and companies from receiving fines, they help prevent damage to our local environments through the prevention of fly-tipping which has negative impacts on local wildlife.

What do we do when we take your waste away?

Once your waste is back at our site, we transfer it into one of our skips. Our skips are collected and emptied on a regular basis by a licensed recycling company where the waste is treated and disposed of properly.
